Fact Sheet, Sequence Stratigraphy, GEUS Description: Fact sheet Sequence Stratigraphy. Sequence stratigraphy integrates seismic and log-stratigraphy biostratigraphy sedimentology and geochemistry to tackle the geological problems encountered in these fields. In hydrocarbon exploration a regional sequence stratigraphic framework helps the geologist to predict the distribution of reservoirs source rocks and seals. This leads to improved prospectivity in both mature and immature areas.

Ud over at give en konkret beskrivelse af reservoiret i Valdemar Feltet illustrerer dette hæfte også den mangfoldighed af arbejdsmetoder der anvendes af reservoirgeologer for at forstå kompleksiteten i et oliefelt. De opnåede resultater er således fremkommet gennem samarbejde mellem seismiske tolkere sedimentologer biostratigrafer geokemikere strukturgeologer og petrofysikere der har integreret seismiske data med sekvensstratigrafiske sedimentologiske petrofysiske geokemiske og biostratigrafiske undersøgelser af borekerner og borehulsmålinger logs.

Vol. 5, Bulletin Description: The Jurassic of North-East Greenland. The Jurassic rift succession of East Greenland has been intensely studied over the last 25 years particularly within the main outcrop areas of Jameson Land and Wollaston Forland. The more isolated and poorly known outcrops on Traill Ø Hold with Hope Hochstetter Forland and Store Koldewey were investigated in the late 1980s and mid-1990s in order to develop a better regional understanding of the Jurassic in eastern Greenland. This collection of seven papers focuses on stratigraphic and depostional aspects of the Jurassic at these localities. Comprehensive descriptions of the Jurassic Hold with Hope and south-eastern Traill Ø are accompanied by papers covering fluvial deposits and new ammonite collections from the Middle Jurassic of Traill Ø. The bulletin is concluded by studies of the dinoflagellate cyst stratigraphy of the Middle and Upper Jurassic of Hold with Hope Hochstetter Forland and Store Koldewey.

Structure and stratigraphy of the plateau lavas Description: In central East Greenland flood lavas cover c. 65 000 km2 along the Blosseville Kyst between Kangerlussuaq and Scoresby Sund the largest onshore lava plateau in the N Atlantic Province. Ages range from c 61 Ma for the oldest lavas through 56-54 Ma for the major part of the volcanics to c 48 Ma for some subordinate lavas. The youngest volcanic rocks in Greenland are some small-volume lavas of Miocene age c. 14 Ma that cap the central East Greenland lava plateau.

APPLIED MINERALOGY Description: The aim of the study is to develop a thorough understanding of the sedimentary link between the Faroese area and Greenland. Our approach is a modern multianalysis provenance study. In the course of the study new techniques of general interest to hydrocarbon exploration are being further developed tested and refined. The results of the study will clarify the source nature and potential of reservoir rocks in the Faroese area and help to construct a stratigraphy of the pre-basaltic rocks.
